Thank you for visiting Nutrify Skin!
My name is RuthAnna and I am the proud founder of Nutrify Skin. My dreams for this endeavor have been a long time in the making and they get bigger and brighter every day. I have so many plans, awesome products and useful information that I am very excited to share with you!
The word “nutrify” means “to give nourishment to”. So, to put it simply, the purpose of Nutrify Skin is to offer you a line of natural, handmade body products that nourish, protect, and give life to your skin using natural and fresh ingredients.
What can you expect from my products?
I am very passionate about the art and chemistry of making natural, handmade body products. I make all my products fresh and in small batches so that I can pay close attention to detail and give each product the care, concentration, and love that it (and your skin) deserves. My products are free of harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances and dyes and none of the ingredients I use involve animal cruelty. I am always learning about new things in the natural beauty world so that I can continually be incorporating the best ingredients into my products. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a perfectionist. Therefore, I will not bring you a product until I feel it is ready for you to use on your skin. To find out more about each product and the benefits of their key ingredients, please visit them individually throughout the rest of the website.
Why do we need to be careful about what we put on our skin?
The problem with most of today’s commercial body products, even many of the ones that are marketed as all natural, is that they are laden with harmful chemicals and various toxins. Why is this a problem? Though the skin provides us with a protective barrier, it is highly permeable and certainly allows things to enter freely. For example, caffeine, nicotine, and progesterone creams; these items are applied to the skin and absorbed into the blood stream within minutes. Likewise, products with harmful substances that are applied to our body can easily penetrate into our skin and allow these toxins to go directly into our bloodstream. They can build up over time within our cells and contribute to a myriad of health issues. The fact that we are also exposed to even more chemicals, toxins, and pollutants in the food we eat and the environments in which we live do not put the odds in our favor in this equation. We unfortunately live in a world where our bodies are constantly bombarded with toxins and it is often more than our bodies can handle. By deciding to make healthy choices for our bodies, including the products we put on our skin, will help to minimize this toxin load and ultimately strengthen our bodies defenses.
We get by with a little help from our skin..
Our skin is an amazing thing. The more I learn about it, the more I am amazed. The skin is our largest organ, and serves as our immune system’s first line of defense against pathogens (bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc.) and pollutants. It plays a vital role in eliminating toxins in the form of sweat, all the while protecting us from losing too much fluid and becoming dehydrated. It maintains homeostasis by regulating our body temperature, causing us to either sweat to cool off or shiver to retain heat. The skin even has the astounding ability to synthesize vitamin D from rays of the sun for our bodies to use. And let’s not forget that due to all of the sensory nerves in our skin, we are able to touch and feel things. These are all reasons why caring for our skin is of the utmost importance; why we should not expose this precious organ to harmful substances; and why I do what I do. Our skin holds us together – it’s our job to return the favor and help hold it together!
ALERT! Don’t be fooled..
Just because a product in the store is labeled “natural” really means nothing. To call a product natural, only a small percentage of the ingredients have to actually be considered all natural, and even then the ingredient could be questionable as to whether it is actually all natural. For example, you may see a product that advertises that it contains shea butter and is natural. They may use a small amount of shea butter, but have a toxic cocktail of other harmful ingredients. This is alarming and misleading. We, as consumers, have to be on our guard at all times. Cosmetic makers can almost use any ingredient they choose and the FDA cannot require safety tests or recall harmful products. The words “dermatologist tested”, “gentle”, and “natural” could just be ad hype. The government has not defined the term “natural”, so no regulations exist about what the product can and cannot contain. I have also heard of ingredients being in products that are not included on the ingredient list, probably because they are harmful or toxic. What a shame this is. We must become educated about what we put on our bodies or we could be unknowingly poisoning ourselves.
I hope to inspire and encourage you to love your body and try to go the natural route in any way you can. My goal is to be able to provide you with several products to help you take care of your body and home in a toxin-free way. I am working towards offering not only a skin care line, but also products for babies, pets, and your home. Stay tuned to my blog posts and I will share lots of neat ideas and recipes with you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
